Initiatives for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development (ISSED) is a Malawian non-governmental organisation established in June 2015 and headquartered in Lilongwe. ISSED was founded on the belief that sustainable development begins within communities themselves.
For more than a decade we have worked at the intersection of agriculture, food security, civic empowerment and economic resilience — strengthening local capacity, promoting self-reliance, and turning grassroots potential into measurable change.
Mission
To improve rural livelihoods through sustainable agriculture, socio-economic empowerment, capacity building and inclusive community development.
Vision
Empowered, self-reliant, food-secure and sustainable communities built through inclusive agricultural and socio-economic development.
At a glance
ISSED measures progress against a defined results framework — every objective carries its own indicators and means of verification.
Our work
Energy poverty, food insecurity and weak civic voice are not separate problems. ISSED works across all of them because rural households experience them together.
